Clayton Frost, Director – POP this POP that Pty Ltd.
The glittering Dolton House at Hyde Park was filled to capacity with over 500 industry guests. The judging panels were comprised of more than 70 industry-leading retailers, brand marketers, agencies and POP suppliers. The POP this POP that team were excited to see how their work would compare with their competitors. As the Bronze and Silver Awards were handed out in their category, tensions rose amongst the team, nervous looks around the table – would we be leaving empty handed? Then evening’s MC Australian actress, comedian and television personality Mary Coustas called out the Winner of Gold for Health & Beauty Temporary Display was POP this POP that for Revlon’s Utra HD Matte Lipcolor Launch FSDU! The table erupted with excitement and relief, as the team took to the stage and claimed their prestigious Gold Indian statue!
The awards are made by the same company that produces the Academy Awards – (the POPAI award actually weighs more due to the Indian’s headdress), the Indian has been a recognised symbol of in-store excellence for over 100 years. The statuette is based on America’s first three-dimensional point-of-purchase display – the cigar store indian.
One of the designers exclaimed, “How do you top a Gold Indian?”, the team didn’t have to wait long to find out when again they were called to the stage to claim the “Pinnacle Award for Best Temporary Display” which is chosen from Gold award winners for each category of temporary displays.
